Paint Bench 28mm Greek Cavalry and Javelin from Essex Miniatures Finished!!!

Paint Time: 5 days 

Tonight I start this new batch of Essex Greek Cavalry and some Greek Javelin. I hope to finish these in about 3 weeks or so. The detail on them are good enough, still trying to figure out what colors to use on them. I may just stick with white tunics and bronze, changing out a red or blue tunic here and there. There are a few others that I am not sure exactly what they are but they look more Macedonian than Greek, but I am just calling them Greek for all practical purposes. I do not know the stock numbers on them. They came with the batch of Essex Greek Infantry as extras, and I decided to paint them up, what the hey! I forgot to add that some of the cavalrymen are on Old Glory horses, but they match to scale good with the Essex horses.

Painted almost 14 hours yesterday and half of today. Not much sleep. I am almost ready to start painting the horses. I decided to repaint some of the cavalry after a wash problem occurred.

These were all white and then washed, but I must have not shook the wash good enough and they turned out really bad, so I repainted them in different colors.

Part 3

Not the greatest detail on these cavalry figures, but they will do. Finished painting the horses and riders, but still need to flock the bases before gluing the riders on. The horses are a mix of Essex and Old Glory. They are not the best detail either. I like the infantry figures way more than I do the cavalry, but I was just curious what they look like painted up. I used some wash on them, but they look good from a distance, and that is all that really matters. Again, I am no pro, and I am in a hurry.

I probably should have added some more color to these guys, but then again...they are good enough.

Part 4

Finished finally, I decided to repaint some of the cavalry to make them more colorful. Again, not the best minis in the world, for detail. But I am happy with them. They were extras anyway. 

28mm City of Atrax 198 BC

Here is another ancient city that I have purchased from Philip Viverito of LMW Works. The City of Atrax in Thessaly in 198 BC during the Punic Wars. The Romans besieged the Macedonian occupied city but failed to take it, because the Macedonian phalanx held the breached wall section.  The Romans tried to get a siege tower up the ramps that were constructed to fire down at the phalanx, but the siege tower fell over and the breach failed.
Here are some photos of the model at Fall In 2002. The Siege of Atrax made by Phil won many awards at Historicon and Cold Wars. It was made in 2000 by Phil. I am the proud new owner of it. One can never have too many buildings and city walls. I am running out of table though.

Paint Bench 28mm Greeks from Black Tree Design and Sgt Major Miniatures (Vendel) Finished!!!

My unarmored Greeks from Black Tree Design arrived this week. I have cleaned them up and preparing them for priming. They are on the list to paint, probably be starting on them in a few weeks. Meanwhile I am still working on my Essex Greeks. I also have another batch of Vendel Greek archers to paint with this round.

Part 1

48 Black Tree Design unarmored Greeks IA1201.

I think I am going to paint these all with red tunic...or white...trying to decide.

With all Black Tree Greeks you have to drill out the hands before you can arm them up. I have a small hand drill that works great for this.

Armed up and ready to be primed.

The Northstar Spears I use work perfect, I probably have bought almost 500 or so so far to date.

Part 2

The unarmored Greeks are now primed and I will begin fleshing them out tonight. Hopefully I can finish them in a week or two.

The Greeks are now ready to be washed, and then flocked, but still there are the shields to work. Making progress slowly.

Oh, and the spears tips need to be painted.....forgot that.

Part 5 

Finished the final set of Greeks I plan on painting for awhile. They turned out ok, still have to dull coat them, they will look better after that.
