Destruction of Pompeii (My daughter's 3rd grade Science Project)

My daughter and I decided to build a volcano showing the destruction of Pompeii. It was very fun and we both learned a lot. She also learned some terrain making skills. And I learned about various types of Volcanoes. It seems the Volcano at Pompeii was one of the first recorded Volcanoes recorded and most of the names of the various phases of at least one type of Volcanoes were named after witness in the 79 AD eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The explosion column or plume rose over 20 miles in the air sending ash everywhere as well as causing a Pyroclastic flow down the mountain sides and then the next day the column collapsed back down on to Mount Vesuvius causing a massive pyroclastic surge avalanche moving at 400 mph and as hot as 1800 degrees pushing massive toxic gases that held the deadly heat, that essentially obliterated Pompeii that was already covered in ash about 9 feet or more the day before. It was compared to the atom bomb being dropped on Hiroshima.
